New Features: February 20, 2019

The features announced with this release. Screenshots and menu names are shown as they were at the time. See the Version History for every release.

Devices

We’ve updated Devices to better support more generic electrical components! For more information, check out the support topic on Devices.

Devices

New Device Endpoints

Devices now support a variety of different physical interfaces! In particular, you can now add Connectors, Ferrules, Loose Wire Ends, Quick Connect Terminals, Ring Terminals, Spade Terminals, and Terminal Points.

New Device Endpoints

Pigtail Connectors

In addition to the new endpoints above, you can now create pigtailed Connectors (and other terminals) to model Devices that are built with prewired assemblies.

Docking Connectors All 4-Sides

With the new Devices, you can also dock your Connectors to all 4 sides of the Device body (left/right/top/bottom).

Signal Name Constraints Relaxed

Signal names in Devices can now contain any character except for spaces, periods, and commas.

Systems

We’ve also updated Systems to support these new Device changes and support additional types of matings!

New Matings Support

With the new additions to Devices, Systems have been updated to support a variety of new matings -- below is a table outlining these new matings, with more information found here.

New Matings Support

New Nets

In Systems, “Nets” have replaced the old “Signal Nets”. This name change reflects how every electrically connected object in RapidHarness will appear in a System Net. In particular, each individual net will now show every Device and Harness Endpoint, so that you can see the complete path of conductance within your Harnesses.

New Nets

Bill of Materials, Aggregate BOM, Nets

Systems now have 3 new outputs alongside your Top Level drawing. In particular, the Bill of Materials, Aggregate Bill of Materials, and Nets can all be printed, and included in your PDF outputs.

New System Highlighting

In Systems, when you now highlight one or more Nets, the highlighting mechanism will quickly allow you to identify the complete electrical path (from Devices, through Harnesses, and other Systems). In particular, when you highlight a Net, all unrelated Harnesses, Devices, and Subsystems will be dimmed out, so you can quickly identify the relevant components associated with the selected Net.

New System Highlighting

Harness Reference Designators

Now in Systems, each Harness you add will have an associated Reference Designator that you can move around to easily identify your Harnesses.

Subsystem Color

Much like Devices and Harnesses, Subsystems can now have an associated color to more clearly classify different parts of your Top Level drawing.

Highlighting in Harnesses

Now in Harnesses, the default Highlighting mechanism will highlight a single connection one at a time (opposed to the entire Net). If you want to see the entire signal propagation within your harness, you can right click on a connection and select “Toggle Net Highlighting”.
