- Wire Highlighting - highlighted connections show every wire in its own color, and are saved with your Harness.
- Connection Tables Page - print all of a Harness's connection tables on pages of their own.
- Alternate Part Numbers - record approved substitutes on any part and show them in your BOM.
- Table Font Size - make any table on your Top Level larger or smaller.
- Locate in Assembly - jump from a part on your drawing to its place in the Assembly tab.
- Settings Tab and Drawing Grid - Settings now opens in a tab of its own, where you can hide the drawing grid or stop items snapping to it.
Bundle Diameters
RapidHarness now calculates the diameter of every bundle in your Harness!
Enter an Outer Diameter on your wires, cables, and pigtail wires, and each bundle's diameter appears beside its length on the drawing, for example Ø6.8 mm. Twisted wires and multi-conductor cables are each counted as a single item, and coverings are added from the inside out to give the overall diameter.
When you create a wire, cable, or covering from an Octopart search, its sizes are filled in for you wherever Octopart lists them.
Access via: open a Wire or Cable, then Outer Diameter on the Assembly tab
See the Calculation, or Override It
Double-click a bundle to open the Bundles tab, where you'll find its Bundle Diameter and its Overall Diameter over the outermost covering. Click the diameter to see every item in the bundle, the method used, and how each covering fits. If you already know the diameter you want, type it in as an override.
Access via: double-click a bundle, then click its Bundle Diameter in the Bundles tab
Covering Fit
Coverings now have sizes of their own, such as the Min and Max Diameter of sleeving or the Supplied and Recovered Diameter of heat shrink tubing. RapidHarness checks each covering against the diameter inside it, and tells you in the Bundles tab and the Rule Checker when a covering is too small or too large.
- Coverings are listed from inside to outside. Drag them to reorder.
- Use Copy from... to give the selected bundles the same coverings as another bundle.
- Turn on Show Diameters in Coverings Table Properties to add diameters to the coverings table on your drawing.
Edit Diameters
The new Edit Diameters page lists every bundle in your Harness with its diameter, its coverings, and how they fit. Double-click or right-click a diameter to see how it was calculated or to override it. Parts with no outer diameter are listed at the bottom, so you know exactly what is left to fill in.
Access via: open a Harness, then Edit Diameters in the Utilities group of the ribbon
Rounded Bends and Draw to Scale
Your bundles can now curve around corners!
Right-click a layout point and choose a Bend Radius of Small, Medium, or Large, or select the layout point and drag its orange handle to set the radius yourself. Bundle lengths, labels, and the Draw to Scale check all follow the curve.
- Layout points and plain branch points now appear only when you hover over or select them or their bundle, so your drawing stays clean.
- Bundles join cleanly where they meet at a branch point.
- Drag a section of a bundle to move the layout points at its ends.
- Drag a branch point to see every branch point it can be merged with.
Access via: right-click a layout point > Bend Radius
Draw to Scale
When a bundle isn't drawn to scale, you now choose how to fix it. Select the bundle's length and click the button beside it to open the Draw to Scale actions:
- Push End - moves one end of the bundle, and everything beyond it.
- Pull Both Ends - splits the difference between the two ends.
- Resize Loop - moves only the bundle's layout points, leaving both ends where they are.
- Stretch Path - scales the bundle's whole path, keeping its shape.
- Straighten - removes the layout points and leaves a straight run of the right length.
Access via: select a bundle's length, then the button beside it, or right-click > Draw to Scale
Wire Highlighting
Highlighted connections now show every wire in its own color!
Each highlighted wire is drawn along its bundles as a band in the wire's color, with stripe colors shown as dashes. The wires fan out of their connectors and curve through branch points, so you can follow each one from end to end.
- Highlighting is now saved with your Harness, so it is still there the next time you open it.
- Right-click a bundle and choose Highlight All Connections within Bundle to see everything that runs through it.
- Right-click a bundle or an empty part of the Top Level and choose Clear All Highlighting to remove it all at once.
Access via: the highlight column of the Connections tab, or right-click a bundle > Highlight All Connections within Bundle
Highlighting in Systems
Highlight a net in a System and its wires now show in the harness bundles they run through, in the same wire colors, without dimming the rest of your drawing. The Nets tab also has new Conductor and Size columns, which show the color, name, and size of the wire at each endpoint. Click Show more beside the search box to widen the tab.
Access via: open a System, then the Nets tab
Connection Tables Page
All of your connection tables can now print on pages of their own!
The new Connection Tables page lists every connection table in your Harness, one after another, each titled with its reference designator and part number. Each table uses the same columns it has on the Top Level, and a table that is too long for one page continues on the next with its header repeated. That leaves your Top Level free for the drawing itself.
New Harnesses include the page in their PDF. For a Harness you already have, right-click the Connection Tables tab and choose Include in PDF. Manufacturing Data can also include a Connection Tables sheet: new Harnesses include it, and for a Harness you already have, tick Connection Tables under Manufacturing Data Settings.
Access via: open a Harness, then the Connection Tables page tab
Alternate Part Numbers
You can now record alternate part numbers on any part!
Use the new Alternates field for approved substitutes, such as the same part from another manufacturer. Alternates are shown beside the part in your Library, and searching your Library for an alternate finds the part. To show them in your BOM, turn on the Alternates column.
Access via: open any part, then Alternates on the Assembly tab. For the BOM column, Edit BOM > Top Level Table > Include Alternates
Table Font Size
The tables on your Top Level can now be as large or as small as you need!
Select a BOM, Tools, Notes, Revision, or Coverings table, or a connection table, and pick a size from 8 to 36. The whole table scales with it, so rows and spacing keep their proportions. Each table has its own size, except connection tables, which share one size across the Harness so they always match.
Access via: select a table on the Top Level, then the font size box in the Font group of the ribbon
Locate in Assembly
Jump from any part on your drawing straight to its place in the Assembly tab!
Right-click a part on the Top Level of a Harness, Device, or System and choose Locate in Assembly. RapidHarness switches to the Assembly tab, expands the tree, and selects the part for you. It works with several parts selected, and is the reverse of Locate in Top Level.
Access via: right-click a part on the Top Level > Locate in Assembly
Settings Tab and Drawing Grid
Settings now has a tab of its own in the File menu!
Settings has moved out of its popup window and sits beside Account and About, with larger text and more room for each page. If you leave the tab or close RapidHarness with changes you haven't saved, you'll be asked whether to save them first.
Drawing Grid
Two new options on the General page let you work without the drawing grid. Untick Show grid lines to hide it, or untick Snap to grid when moving items to place items exactly where you drop them, with the arrow keys nudging them in the smallest steps. Hiding the grid turns snapping to it off as well.
Holding Alt while you drag now turns off snapping to the grid for that drag, as well as snapping to other items.
Access via: File > Settings > General, or click your name in the top-right corner > Settings
Additional Improvements
- Faster custom parts - right-click an empty part of a Harness's Top Level and choose Add Custom Part... to add it straight to the Harness. Its BOM id is now placed beneath its image.
- Revision date in templates - $REV_DATE$ in a template shows the date of the most recent revision.
- Page name in more places - $PAGE_NAME$ now works on Top Level drawings and on every table page, including the new Connection Tables page.
- Template image outlines - an outline given to an image in a template is now drawn on the drawings and table pages that use it.
- Design recovery - an unsaved design is now recovered into your Home folder when the folder it was in has been deleted.
- Fixes - deleting several custom parts at once now removes exactly the parts you selected, and a crash when renaming a Device endpoint while editing its Electrical Interface is fixed.
