Library Tools
Your Library has tools to find where designs are used, and to keep it tidy: finding unused and duplicate designs, restoring missing subdesigns, and recovering deleted items.
Design Usage
To find every design that uses a given design (for example, every Harness that uses a particular connector), select it in your Library and open the Usage tab in the details pane. Use the Show designs using dropdown to look for any version of the design or one specific version.
You can also press Usage in the Version Control section of the Home ribbon to search for the design you have open.
Unused Designs
Select Unused Designs on the left of the Library to list the parts that are not used anywhere in your Library. Harness, Device, and System designs are not included. Open a design, jump to its location, or delete the ones you no longer need; deleted designs go to the Recycle Bin.
Duplicate Designs
Select Duplicate Designs to list designs of the same type that share a Part Number or an Internal Part Number. Select a result to see each copy, where it is, and how many times it is used.
Press Resolve Duplicates and choose the Design to Keep. RapidHarness then:
- Versions each design that uses one of the duplicates, so you have a record from before the change.
- Updates those designs to use the design you kept, and versions them again.
- Moves the remaining duplicates to the Recycle Bin.
Designs being edited by other users can't be updated, so they need to be versioned first.
Missing Subdesigns
A subdesign is missing when a design uses it but it is no longer in your Library, for example a Connector used by Harnesses that was later deleted, or a design transferred to your team without some of its parts. Select Missing Subdesigns to list them, along with the designs that use each one.
Press Resolve Missing Subdesigns to open a wizard that fixes them for you. Choose Automatically Resolve (recommended), or Manually Select Replacement Design to pick a replacement yourself. RapidHarness adds the designs back to your Parts folder if needed, versions the designs that use them, updates them, and creates a final version.
Missing subdesigns are also flagged in the Design Assembly of any open design. Right-click one and select Resolve Missing Subdesign... to fix it from there.
Recycle Bin
Deleted folders and designs go to the Recycle Bin, which shows when each was deleted, who deleted it, and where it came from. Select items and press Restore to bring them back, or Delete Forever to remove them permanently. Deleting forever cannot be undone.
Admin Tools
The Admin Tools menu in the Library toolbar has two actions that require Admin privileges on your team:
- Force Version - versions a design another team member left open for editing, for example while they are away, so it becomes available to everyone. Any unsaved changes on their computer are lost.
- Transfer Ownership - moves designs and folders to a Partner's Library. See Partners and Sharing.
Admin privileges are managed on the File > Account > Team page. If a team member has left your company, delete their account instead; see Additional Users.
Searching and Adding Parts
The Library search box filters your results as you type. Use the Search options dropdown to choose where to search (Your Library, Partner Libraries, and the Octopart Database) and which design types to include.
To find parts you don't have yet, click Search Octopart at the end of your results. Select a part and press Add to Library, choose the design type to save it as, and it's ready to use.
The Copy menu in the Library toolbar copies a design's Part Number, Manufacturer, Description, Internal Part Number, or All Fields to your clipboard.
