Splices
A Splice electrically joins every connection made to it. Splices can optionally have cavities, just like connectors, when the splice has a physical housing with defined wire positions.
Strip Length
In the Splice design's Assembly tab, click the Strip Length value to set the strip length for the splice. It is carried into the Connection Tables, Wiring Table, and Cutlist of every Harness that uses the splice. See Editing Lengths for how strip lengths relate to connection lengths.
Splice Cavities
Cavities are optional for splices. If your splice doesn't have them, nothing changes, and wires connect to the splice body as they always have.
To add cavities, open the Splice design's Assembly tab, type the cavity names in the "Type to add cavities" box, and press Add. You can add many at once by typing a range, such as 1-5, a-e, or 11,12,13.
- Right-click a cavity and select Rename (F2) to rename it, or Delete cavity (Del) to remove it.
- Cavity names are checked as you type: blank names, duplicate names, and names containing a period are not allowed.
Splice cavities appear in the Design Assembly alongside connector cavities.
Connecting Wires to a Splice
When you create a connection to a splice in the Connections tab, a Cavity dropdown appears, just like it does for connectors. It offers:
- No Cavity - connects to the splice itself. This is selected by default, so your workflow is unchanged until you want a cavity.
- Custom Cavity - type a cavity name that isn't defined on the splice.
- Each cavity defined on the Splice design.
Splice cavity callouts flow through to your Connection Tables, Wiring Tables, and outputs the same way connector cavities do.
Changing a Splice
When you swap a splice in your Harness for a design with different cavities, the Remap Connections dialog lets you choose how to carry your connections across: Use new cavities, Keep original cavities, or Assign custom cavities. Map each Original Cavity to a New Cavity, then press Change Splice.
Configurations
Splices support Design Configurations, so related parts and tools can be added automatically whenever the splice is placed.
