Creating a Pigtail Connector
In the Connector design, open the Assembly tab and check Pigtail Connector. Then:
- Click the Pigtail Length value to specify the length of the pigtail.
- Right-click a cavity and select Edit Pigtail Wire... to set the wire's Size, Primary Color, and Stripes. Select several cavities first to edit their wires together.
Each cavity's wire is shown in the Pigtail Wire column of the cavity list.
Because the wires are already attached, a pigtail connector has no contacts, wire seals, or wire insertion depths. When you check Pigtail Connector, RapidHarness lets you know if any of these will be removed from the design and its Configurations.
Using Pigtail Connectors in a Harness
Add a pigtail connector to your Harness like any other connector. Its wires appear in a Pigtail Wires folder under the connector in the Design Assembly, each labelled with its cavity and color.
When you create a connection from a pigtail connector, the pigtail wire is used as the conductor, and the Connections list shows [Pigtail Wire] in place of a part number. A few rules apply:
- A connection can't use two pigtail wires. To join two pigtail wires, connect them through a splice.
- Loopback connections are not allowed on pigtail connectors.
Changing a Connector to a Pigtail Connector
You can swap a connector in your Harness for a pigtail design. Remove any N/C connections on the connector first. RapidHarness then opens the Remap Connections dialog, where you pick the New Pigtail Wire for each Original Cavity before pressing Change Connector.
Pigtails in Your Outputs
Pigtail wires are carried through your Connection Tables, Wiring Table, Cutlist, and other outputs. Where a column doesn't apply to a pigtail wire, such as its strip length, twisting, conductor part number, or contact and wire seal part numbers, the table shows N/A.
Insertion depth and strip length do not apply to pigtail connectors, so they also show N/A in the Edit Lengths dialog.
