Here's what's new in this release:
- Import Connections - bring a wire list or from-to list into a Harness from Excel, a CSV file, or pasted rows.
- Custom Pages - add your own pages to Harness, Device, and System drawings, and reorder your PDF by dragging tabs.
- Undo and Redo Everywhere - undo nearly any edit, with a history list of your recent actions.
- Select Associated Items - move a connector together with everything drawn for it.
- Object Snapping - items line up with each other as you drag them, with guide lines to show you.
Import Connections
You can now import a wire list or from-to list straight into your Harness, with no more entering each connection by hand!
Connections that already exist are updated instead of duplicated, and nothing is ever deleted. That means you can export your Connections, edit them in Excel, and import them back.
Access via: open a Harness, then Import in the Utilities group of the ribbon
Step 1: Select or Paste
Select an Excel file (xlsx or xls), a CSV or text file, or drop a file onto the dialog. You can also paste rows copied straight from a spreadsheet.
Step 2: Check the Columns
RapidHarness finds your header row and matches each column to an import field, such as From, To, Conductor, Color, Size, Length, and Notes. Change any match from the dropdown above the column.
Step 3: Match New Parts
If your list names a connector, splice, loose wire end, ferrule, terminal, wire, or cable that isn't in your Harness yet, the import creates it for you. When a row's Part Number or IPN matches a design in your Library, that design is selected automatically. For everything else, pick a design here, or leave it without one and assign it later.
Select several parts with Ctrl or Shift to give them all the same design at once.
Step 4: Review and Import
See exactly what each row will do before anything changes. Rows with warnings are still imported, and rows with errors are skipped. When you click Import, new parts are placed below your existing drawing, each with its connection table, ready for you to arrange.
Custom Pages
You can now add your own pages to your Harness, Device, and System drawings!
Use them for an overview sheet, build notes, a photo page, or anything else your documentation needs. Each custom page has its own name and its own Drawing Template, and holds text, images, and shapes just like the Top Level. Custom pages are included in your PDF and print output, with Page X of Y numbering.
Click the plus button at the end of the page tabs to add a page.
Access via: the + button at the end of the page tabs
Page Tabs and Manage Pages
Your page tabs now follow the order of your PDF, so reordering your output is as easy as dragging a tab!
- Drag a tab to reorder your pages.
- Right-click a tab to Rename, Change Template, Clone, or Delete a custom page, or to include or exclude any page from the PDF.
- Pages excluded from the PDF stay as dimmed tabs at the end.
The new Manage Pages dialog replaces PDF Settings. Use it to add, rename, reorder, and include or exclude pages all in one place.
Access via: right-click any page tab > Manage Pages..., or Save PDF > PDF Settings...
Undo and Redo Everywhere
Undo and Redo now work on nearly everything you do in RapidHarness!
That covers Harness connections and bundles, Device and System layouts, part properties, cavities, images, configurations, coverings, tables, and more. Press Ctrl + Z to undo and Ctrl + Y to redo, or use the Undo and Redo buttons at the top of the window.
The Undo and Redo buttons also have a new dropdown that lists your recent actions by name, such as "Add Connection" or "Reverse Connections". Pick any action in the list to undo or redo everything back to that point in a single step.
Access via: the arrow next to the Undo and Redo buttons
Fewer Confirmation Prompts
Delete with confidence, because Ctrl + Z now brings it right back!
Since deletes can be undone, RapidHarness no longer asks you to confirm when you delete items from a design. Prompts remain for anything Undo cannot reverse, such as deleting from your Library.
Select Associated Items
You can now move your connector along with everything drawn for it in one single step!
Select a connector, terminal, or branch point in your Harness and press Ctrl + Shift + A. RapidHarness also selects its reference designator, images, and connection tables, so the whole group moves in one drag.
Access via: Ctrl + Shift + A, or right-click > Select Associated Items
Object Snapping
Lining things up is now as easy as dragging them close!
As you drag an item on a Harness, Device, or System drawing, or on a custom page, it snaps into line with the edges and centers of the items around it. Dashed blue guide lines appear to show what it is lined up with.
- Tables dock flush against each other and against the drawing frame.
- Connectors, terminals, and bends line up by the point their wiring runs to, so your bundles stay straight.
- Hold Alt while you drag to turn snapping off for that drag.
Access via: drag any item on a drawing
Additional Improvements
- Text formatting shortcuts - press Ctrl + B, Ctrl + I, or Ctrl + U to make the selected text bold, italic, or underlined.
- What's New links - the start page and File > About now link to the Version History page, so you can see what changed in each release.
- Length overrides kept - a connection's length overrides are now kept when its endpoints change or the connection is reversed.
- Bundle shapes kept - bundles keep their shape when a branch point is removed.
- Device interface import moved - importing a Device's Electrical Interface is now done from the same Import button in the Utilities group of the ribbon, instead of the Import ICD button on the Electrical Interface tab.
