Design Configurations
Configurations let you assign related parts to a design, and add them automatically when that design is used in a Harness. For example, you can associate a set of Contacts and a Backshell with a Connector, so they are added every time the connector is placed.
Designs with Configurations
Configurations are available in Connectors, Splices, Ferrules, Quick Connect Terminals, Ring Terminals, Spade Terminals, Diodes, and Resistors.
Creating a Configuration
Open the design and select its Configurations tab. From here you can:
- Press Add to create a new configuration, or use the dropdown next to it and select Clone Selected Configuration to start from a copy of an existing one.
- Give it a Configuration Name, then assign designs to the various elements of the part, such as the contacts and wire seals for each cavity of a connector.
- Add Tools to the configuration's Tools folder, so the Tools needed for the part are listed wherever it's used.
- Check Default to apply the configuration automatically whenever this design is added to a Harness. The default configuration is marked (Default) in the list.
- Press Delete Configuration to remove the selected configuration.
Applying a Configuration in a Harness
Right-click a component on the Top Level drawing, or in the Design Assembly, and select Configurations, then Apply followed by the configuration's name. You can select several components that use the same design and apply a configuration to all of them at once.
To clear all configurations from a component, select Configurations, then Clear All Configurations.
Overwriting or Merging
You can choose what happens when you apply a configuration to a component that already has parts assigned. Go to File > Settings > General, and under Design Configurations set the Apply Configuration Behavior:
- Overwrite existing configuration - the parts in the new configuration replace the existing ones. For example, if a connector has a backshell and you apply a configuration with a different backshell, the backshell is replaced.
- Merge with existing configuration when possible - the new configuration's parts are merged with the ones already assigned, where possible.
